Aimee & Marvin | My Sister’s Wedding

9/18/12

Where does one start to even begin talking about your own sister’s wedding? It’s still surreal to me, in so many ways, that she really is a MARRIED woman, now! But I couldn’t be more thrilled for her and Marvin, or more positive that they’re the perfect people for each other.

Aimee has been pretty “anti-wedding” for many years, now. She’s a very introverted person, as is Marvin, and so the thought of a big event with hundreds of people staring at them as they make the most important, sacred promise to each other was NOT appealing. And if you know my sister, you know that whenever she’s not a fan of something she doesn’t allow pressure from other people or society to make her do it anyway, just because it’s expected. And as a firm believer that everyone’s wedding day should accurately reflect THEM as a couple, when they decided that they wanted a very small immediate-family-and-wedding-party-only ceremony, followed by a simple mix-and-mingle reception with around 100 guests, I knew that would be the perfect fit for them. And it truly was. The whole event was held at Adelino’s in Lafayette, IN, which, ironically, is where Aaron and I had our rehearsal dinner. Because they opted to do a First Look, I was able to do all of their portraits and still be IN the wedding (best of both worlds!), but I’m sooo grateful for my dear friend Maria Davey who beautifully documented the rest of the day so that I could enjoy time with family without a camera in my hand.

Aimee’s PERFECT dress was actually found at Urban Outfitters on the clearance rack. How crazy is that?! I can’t imagine anything having been more “her”.

Gosh, my sister is beautiful.

Marvin definitely needed his venti coffee in order to put up with me for pictures. ;) But once he had it, he was a pretty happy camper. He wanted the bouquet to be extra special, so instead of Aimee picking it out herself (since she didn’t have any strong preferences), Marvin actually picked it out and kept it a secret from her until the First Look. He ended up choosing some of the same flowers that he gave her on their very first date. :)

I love that you can see her freckles in this one…. :)

They asked me to sing for their ceremony while Marvin’s friend, Matt, played. What I didn’t count on was getting choked up when my dad walked Aimee in. Such a sweet, special moment, even if I DID miss a note or two.

Their vows were so, so precious. And when Marvin started crying as he pledged to love and protect my sister always, I couldn’t help but follow suit. I didn’t even cry at my own wedding, but somehow this got me.

Married!!!

Some of the dearest, most amazing women in my life, right here….

And of course, my family. We love ourselves some photo-ops!

We also have NO lack of “personality”….ahem.

But we can act normal, too. :)

And though they may not be as camera-crazy as we are, I assure you Marvin’s family was all there to celebrate, too!

Aaron decided he was going to photobomb as many pictures as possible. Haha. Poor Maria.

There truly aren’t enough words for how full my heart is at seeing my sister as genuinely happy as she is. I’m so thankful that God brought a man that genuinely gets her, and that I’ve gained a new brother! Such happiness, all around! :) If you want to see ALL of the images from the day you can check out their full wedding gallery. Thanks again to Maria for being so amazing and helping to document the day! Yay for sister’s being married! And HAPPY TUESDAY to all!
