An Introduction to Our Home!

7/17/13

Many of you have been so sweet to say how excited you are for me and Aaron as we bought our first home at the end of April. A lot of you have also asked about photos…. I know, what kind of photographer buys a home and then doesn’t post any photos?! Well, the kind that forgot to take before photos of every room before starting work in some. So, our house is a strange in-the-middle stage where we’ve done SOME painting and decorating, but still have a lot to go before it would be “post worthy”. While I know it doesn’t need to be perfect, I decided I want to wait until we get the rooms painted and things looking a little more like “us” before I officially blog anything. However, over the summer we’re hoping to make some progress on things of that nature, so I will try to share some of it along the way, even if it’s just a project here or there or an inspiration board for a room, etc. It won’t be any sort of official series, but now that there’s a whole new area of interest in my life (homeowning + decorating) it’ll be fun to blog some of it. :)

With that said, I DO have photos for you to see, today! The previous owner had this slideshow online to show off the house, and I thought it would be a perfect way for you to see it without judging MY style or taste, since it’s ALL their wall colors and furniture, etc. ;) But it will at least give you an idea. Sorry they’re not amazing quality, I screen-shot images from the slideshow. But, it at least gives you an idea (AND you’ll find out why we wanted to do so much repainting…. ;). So, without further ado, here’s a little tour:

This is directly to your right when you walk in the door. It was their formal living room, but I’m using it as my office.

To the left when you walk in is the dining room. And it’s really not THIS orange in person. It’s more of a dark rusty red. But we will be changing that. :P

We love the kitchen, but truly couldn’t stand this color. (It was lime green in person, not yellow.) We JUST finished painting all of the trim white (which will eventually happen in all of the downstairs area) and the walls Linen White by Benjamin Moore. You can get a glimpse of that from my Instagram this morning. It already makes SUCH a huge difference!

The blue bedroom is the only one on the first floor, and the one that Aaron & I are in. There are 4 bedrooms upstairs and this other photo shows what they generally look like – they’re all just this light beige color. Thankfully all of the trim upstairs and in all bedrooms is already white. :)

We also LOVE the back yard/deck area – even though we’ve come to find out how much work it is to upkeep. (I still have a LOT to learn about the gardening part of it all…) But we did just recently get a grill & patio furniture, so we’re excited to make it a space that we can enjoy with family and friends. :)

So there you have it! A little introduction to the house, as lived in by the previous owners. I’ll definitely update you along the way as we progress in making it our own. More than anything, we just feel immensely blessed to have gotten this as our first home. It’s an exciting new adventure and I know we have MUCH to learn! Feel free to post links to your favorite home decor blogs, books & magazines! I’m always looking for fun and fresh inspiration (although, Young House Love is definitely my one-stop shop, so far :).

Happy Wednesday, friends!

  1. Lovely house, Tori! I just moved into my first apartment, and I totally understand being in the “in-between” stage of decorating. I’m looking forward to seeing how you jazz your place up!
