Coral & Olive Bathroom Inspiration

5/02/14

We’ve recently had the rest of the downstairs painting completed – which included the living room and the bathroom. Our bedroom is also downstairs, and that’s the one room that hasn’t been touched yet. But, all of the public downstairs has been finished, and I’d say that’s a pretty great accomplishment for the first year of owning a home! Especially when you consider that we painted every piece of trim AND the walls and stairway, etc. Now that the walls are better colors and all the trim is white, my mind is constantly spinning in the inspiration department to really put the finishing touches on rooms. Granted, acquiring furniture and decorative elements can take time not only due to saving money, but also to finding those pieces that you really fall in love with. We have lots of “for now” things that I may not love, but are functional and working just fine, so I’m trying to slowly add in a few things (even if they’re small elements) that I love to begin elevating the style of our home. So today, I thought I’d share our bathroom inspiration!

First of all, if you’ve never heard of the Polyvore app, you need to stop now and go download it! It’s such a fun and easy way to put together inspiration boards for rooms, outfits, or anything your heart desires! I’ve just started playing with it (thanks to my pal Kristin telling me about it), so I’m no expert, yet. But if you were like me and wondered how people got those perfectly-put-together white boards, now you know!

Anyway, back to the bathroom. We already had the pictured shower curtain (purchased a couple years ago from Urban Outfitters) and since it’s my favorite of the 2 that we have, I decided to base the bathroom around it. The walls were originally a bright aqua color (they clearly had a sea/beach thing going on) but we had them painted Rosemary Sprig by Benjamin Moore since Aaron really likes green colors. I would have gravitated towards drawing the grays from the curtain for the walls, but the green was a compromise and I have to say I actually like it. Plus, we already have gray towels, so that means they go nicely against the wall color. Since our cabinets are brown, counter tops are a beige toned granite, and the floor is hard wood, I don’t want it to be too drab/earthy, so I think that pulling out the coral tones of the curtain in the rugs and with accents will be the best way to bring some bright and cheery character to the space.

I’m especially excited that there’s some wall space to hang a piece or two to bring in some extra style. I’m really, really in love with both of these prints that I found on Etsy, and ideally I would hang one of them next to a simple calligraphy piece (something like in the inspiration board). But the question is….which one? “Poppies” or “Hello“? I like that the Poppies print has the coral color in it, but I think the floral style of Hello might play off of the shower curtain design better. Help a girl out – which would you choose? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

The one on the left! It is more colorful and defined. :)

I LOVE the poppies one! I think it would be really pretty to keep up with the consistency of having those bright pops of that pinkish coral color throughout your bathroom!
