Small Business Simplification: Click ‘N Ship

9/21/15

If you remember my post a couple weeks ago about Align Album Design, and simplifying your business by outsourcing, then you know I’m on a mission to free myself up in as many ways as possible. Well, this is the latest way that I’ve done that, and it’s so easy it’s ridiculous!

I KNOW I’m not the only one who has spent countless hours of my life driving to and from the Post Office, waiting in line, etc. It’s no one’s favorite place to go, and it inevitably always takes longer than anticipated. So I decided something had to change. I always hear commercials for Stamps.com when I’m listening to Spotify, so that was my original plan to check out, but then I found out you can ship directly from USPS.com for free! All you need is a mail scale (I got this one), a printer, full page labels (or just packing tape). And that’s seriously it!

Once you purchase and print your label, you then click “Schedule a Pick-Up” and if you choose “during normal mail delivery” it’s completely free! Then you set it out on your porch, and bam! You are DONE. How and why would anyone not want to get their time back by doing this? I just can’t believe I wasn’t doing it so much sooner!

You might be asking, are there any down sides? And I suppose these are the only cons I have found:

  • You HAVE to ship via Priority Mail. This may not always be the cheapest option, but to me it’s worth the potential extra couple dollars here and there to save time and gas by not driving to the Post Office anymore.
  • You can’t use your pretty branded shipping labels. This is a bit of a bummer, but even when I did use them, once you get your package paid for and such at the Post Office, they always put stamps and stickers all over the package taking away the beauty of my nicely branded label, anyway. So, it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make for convenience. Plus, you can just focus more on making the inside of the package branded nicely, which is what really counts, anyway.

So there you have it! For the low cost of an $18-$20 mail scale, you can totally eliminate an entire errand from your forever to-do list, and get more of your time back! Hope this easy tip is as enlightening for someone else as it has been for me. :)

Happy Monday, friends! Here’s to more time for the stuff that we’re passionate about, and less spent on everything else!

  1. Last time I went into the post office with like 10 packages they were like “you know you can ship these from home.” I think this blog post is what I need to take the leap and try! I think Katelyn likes me going to the post office cause it gets me out of the house.

Yes!! I’m so glad you blogged this! I’ve been meaning to ask you how you liked your scale because trekking to the post office with a little one in tow is NOT fun (or easy). Totally buying a scale today!

Great news! You can now ship First Class with USPS pickup as well! You just need to do it through your Paypal account. (direct link: http://bit.ly/28OI9qb). Such a huge time saver and you don’t have to overpay to send lighter packages.
