Wardrobe Wednesday | Vintage Style

10/09/13

I’m sure it’s no surprise that I love some good vintage style inspiration. And when I get to do something like go to a Mad Men themed party, it’s pretty much my ideal type of event. But I also totally love just owning some vintage pieces that have everyday-wear possibilities. I’ve had this inspiration photo pinned to my style board for over a year, now, because I was just struck by the simplicity of the beautiful, vintage look. I love the classic, neutral tones and just how classy it is. While I don’t really own hats, I did remember that I had a classic, neutral dress (I’m guessing from the 50’s or 60’s) that would create the same silhouette and achieve the same simple, vintage look.

This dress was gifted to me by my sweet friend Sarah a couple years ago, and surprisingly fit perfectly. The only thing I did was cut the shoulder pads out. There’s definitely a lot of possibility of mixing color with the neutral tones and subtle pattern, but I decided to keep it simple with nude heels and just a little color in my ring and earrings.

I would definitely wear this dress for a date out, or pair it with some tights and flats or ankle boots for a more casual look. Would you wear a vintage piece like this, or would it feel like a costume to you? There’s just something I love about being able to mix and match old and new pieces and wear something vintage in a new, fresh way.

Happiest of Wednesdays to everyone!

Wow, what a great dress – looks like it fits you really well! Love the big cool buttons on it :-) I too have some vintage dresses and shirts, which I wear regularly. Guess I tend to “tone it down” by pairing them with some other, more casual and every-day items such as a cardigan, jeans, etc. But if you can pull off wearing a vintage dress just like that, I would say GO FOR IT! :-)

  4. Oh my goodness. IN LOVE with this dress on you! Looks AMAZING! Perfect accessories. AH! So much love!
