Dining Room Progress

2/17/14

I am by no means a home decorating expert. I love following decor blogs, and brilliant DIY’ers, but half the time I’m stumped just trying to figure out what exactly I want to do with a room and once I do, how to achieve it. I’ve always been a slow decision-maker, especially when it comes to things that cost significant amounts of money like buying furniture, etc. I’m also very sentimental, which means if I’m given the opportunity to work in furniture or other things that have belonged to family members, I make that a priority. And, of course, as most people say, making your house a home and getting each room where you want it to be is a process. We’re slowly doing things as time and money allow, and while that’s often slower than I wish it was, progress is still definitely being made.

The dining room has been the main focus for progress, lately, as I acquired my great-grandmother’s china cabinet back in November, had a friend help me make curtains last month, and finally hung some of my plates on the wall this weekend.

There’s still much that I want to do like paint/recover all the chairs for the room, stain the china cabinet a darker shade (to better match the table, and update it a bit) and potentially find a rug that will compliment the room. But for now, I celebrate the little victories like curtains and plates because they’re evidence that progress is being made and sometimes on a Monday, you need to be reminded of that.

Anyone else have any home-decor victories from the weekend? I love to hear where others are at in this never-ending process, as well. :)

  1. Your plates look so good against the blue wall! I got two more plates over the weekend, so it looks like I’m going to have to start hanging more on the other side of the window. Guess how excited Jesse is about that haha.

Those plates are adorable!! I recently hung some plates on the wall in my kitchen. They brighten up the space and add a nice personal touch. I’m not a professional interior designer, but I’d say you have an “eye”. :)

  3. LOVE your style Tori. I don’t really know you much at all, but I feel like everything you post that has to do with your home is so consistent that I can recognize it as you. It’s weird. :) The plates are perfect.
