Suzanne and Jake’s wedding was one of the most unique and thoughtful celebrations I’ve ever had the privilege to photograph. Set on the beautiful grounds of Brook Hill, an estate that’s been in Suzanne’s extended family since 1842 (though it’s even older than that!), every aspect of the day had personal, handmade, sentimental and local touches to them. I’m so excited to be showing off their special day, today!
Suzanne had her dress custom designed and hand made for her (and could it BE more stunning??) and the fabulous invitation suite design was hand-drawn by one of the bridesmaids!
Suzanne’s mother passed away several years ago, but at every turn of the wedding day they included her in such special ways. One of the coolest being that their wedding rings were actually Suzanne’s mother and father’s, gifted to her by her dad. (But as another cool side note, her original engagement ring was wooden and made by Jake!)
Reading a note from Jake before heading out for the First Look…
These two just could not have been more dapper on their wedding day. Isn’t Suzanne stunning?? The blue and gray color tones with the neutral flowers just work so beautifully with the setting!
This fun pink house used to be the goat barn!
Suzanne’s Mom is actually buried at Brook Hill, which made it all the more perfect wedding location for them, and it was really sweet that they were able to take time to place flowers at her grave and have a special moment there.
Changing things up from the norm, they actually had a cocktail hour before the ceremony to allow their guests to relax and mingle a little bit before the official celebration got underway.
And then the ceremony!
They held their ceremony under a bamboo Chuppah, which is part of Jewish wedding tradition. Jake has some Jewish ancestry, and this was a really cool way to pay homage to that.
For all of their food and drink they chose locally grown, organic options and for their signature drink they even used wineberries that they collected last summer!
Once the reception got underway, we snuck away for just a few more portraits…
Such a truly fabulous day. Do they know how to rock a reception or what?! Anytime crowd surfing is involved, I’m pretty impressed. ;) Huge thanks to all of the many friends, family and vendors who made such a unique celebration possible – be sure to check out all of the info below! I’m so grateful I got to be part of their day, and thanks to Hollie for shooting with me!
