So, Llewyn actually turns 5 months today, but since I’m still a little behind on sharing these, I’m going with his 3 & 4 month photos. It’s totally crazy how much he’s growing and changing. These have been wonderful and hard months, but the joys have far outweighed the struggles!
The biggest things of note when he turned 3 months were that he suddenly started waking up just about every 2 hours through the night – which got very exhausting. AND he started sleeping in his nursery and crib. Well, sometimes his swing to try to help with the whole waking-every-two-hours thing. But ultimately the transition to his own room went smoothly! He also got so much better at grasping things and beginning to be able to pull things to his mouth.
At 4 months we were (and for the whole month have been) still struggling with his sleeping pattern. But he also had really bad eczema that required an oral steroid which also totally funked everything up and kept him from sleeping well. That was an extra difficult 9 days, where Aaron happened to be gone. Thankfully my parents came to visit for some of that time and were a huge help. And also thankfully, the steroid helped get his skin under control and we’ve been able to maintain it (with me additionally cutting out some foods from my diet). And in the last week of this month we made a few changes that have helped get us on a much better sleeping routine (i.e. back to only one middle of the night feeding instead of like 3 – hallelujah!). Some of it, I’m sure, was the 4-month sleep regression (which I think really started at 3 months) mixed with needing to transition him out of being swaddled and the eczema. So, it was just a perfect storm that I’m so grateful we’re finally on the other side of!
As far as fun things, he started playing in an exersaucer and in just a few weeks was already able to grab things he couldn’t reach at first, and bounces more than initially. When he’s playing on his floor mat he loves to kick his feet around, look up at the mirror, and constantly turn to look at me when I’m sitting on the couch. Every time we make eye contact he shoots me a smile and goes back to playing. He’s also taken to laughing when Aaron sings in a high-pitched voice (like “Sugar” by Maroon 5). It’s been so fun to watch him get more and more interactive and exploratory with his ever-growing skills.
Totally in love with my little man, and even through the hard days and weeks, the joy of living life with him is only continuing to increase. I’ll try not to wait another whole month before posting his 5-month photos (which we will do later today)! :)
