It’s hard to believe this year is already almost over! But it IS fun to plan for some New Year’s Eve festivities if you’re gonna go out and do something fun. In my opinion, the key for a late night like that is feeling a little fancy AND comfortable all in one. So when my Mom found this fun velvet dress of her’s from the 90’s (which I totally remember her wearing!) it was the perfect inspiration for a little NYE style.
We often think of cocktail attire when we think of “going out” – which usually means above-the-knee dresses. But being that it’s Winter, something with sleeves and longer length is definitely welcome for the warmth, and doesn’t have to sacrifice the vibe of cocktail attire. Since velvet is totally back in, and this wine color is perfect for a holiday party, I decided to just add a touch of boho with the long vest, and a little more vintage with the necklace and clutch. A little lip color and some heels and ta-da! Totally party-ready.
Dress: was my Mom’s | Shoes: Thrifted, $3 | Vest: H&M, $9 | Clutch: Thrifted, $3 | Necklace: Thrifted, $2
Anyone else taken some pieces from your own Mom’s past wardrobe and repurposed them? I love how style always comes back around and something as simple as cutting out shoulder pads and rolling up the sleeves on this dress made it totally wearable. (And can we talk about the loose shape being great for postpartum? ;)
If you’re interested in something velvet, and want to snag something before NYE, Target actually has a few cute options and several on sale right now!
Tell me what you plan to wear for New Year’s Eve!
