Wardrobe Wednesday | Favorite Thrift Stores

As I’ve been doing this series over the past year, I’ve gotten lots of comments about the things that I’ve gotten at thrift stores and most commonly “What thrift stores do you shop at?”. While no store is ALWAYS a success, I decided it was high time to finally share which stores in the Richmond area are my favorites and that I seem to have success with. (Of course, a lot of my favorite thrifted items also came from Indiana, since that’s where I lived up until a few years ago) Also, I’m most definitely sure there are still several in Richmond that I haven’t even heard of or been to yet, so this list is by no means all-inclusive, but it’s just from my experience thus far! Pictured are some of my favorite thrifted finds that have been featured, so far!

Rumors Boutique is definitely a no-brainer and by far the trendiest thrift store, with the most thoughtful selection. I love that store and can always find something I want. The Hall Tree is also nice for a more upscale consignment shop, and I’ve found some pieces from Anthropologie there, before, for great prices. Bygone’s Vintage Boutique has absolutely stunning things, though their prices are definitely more “boutique” than “thrifty” – but totally worth it when you’re looking for a unique piece for a special occasion.

When it comes to a lot of things, I find that you still can’t beat Goodwill & Salvation Army, and the ones on Midlothian Turnpike have generally proven successful for me. I also usually found good stuff at the Goodwill on Hull St. between 288 and Genito.

Love of Jesus and Family Thrift also on Midlothian Turnpike are other favorites, though they can be pretty hit or miss.

Also, The Clothes Rack (both locations) have been fun to check out now and then, though my latest score was a $5 colorful lamp base, not so much clothing. Also, the thrift shop on Cary St. basically right across from Chop Suey bookstore is a favorite, but I can’t for the life of me remember the name. But there you have it! So far those locations (for clothing) have been my favorites, but I know that there are still a lot of other great spots I need to check out. So, if you’re local and know of places I didn’t mention, please comment them below so I can check them out!

As a side note, I will be taking a break from Wardrobe Wednesday posts again this summer (like I did last year) to make way for more wedding-related posts as I’m in the midst of the “busy” season. But fear not! I will definitely be picking the series back up again in September. So, stay tuned! :)

Happy Wednesday, friends! I hope you have fun doing a lot of thrifty adventuring this summer, and I’d love to hear about your favorite finds along the way!

I have always been amazed at the things you find thrifting. I just do not have the patience for it. I totally enjoy this series, though, and look forward to when it returns in September. (I would love to steal that bag at the top, though…) ;)

  2. The Clothes Rack near Carytown is definitely my favorite! I walk out with a huge bag each time. It’s hard to sift through all of the “old lady clothes” sometimes, but that seems to be where I find most of my gems. I found my favorite sweater of all time there!

What color/brand is your navy nail polish? It’s super cute.
