Wardrobe Wednesday | Marybeth of A Girl & Her Balloon

12/22/14

Thrilled to introduce you to my fabulously talented and stylish friend Marybeth of A Girl and Her Balloon. This lady makes the cutest and craftiest things for her Etsy shop, but additionally always expresses herself wonderfully through her style. I love the quirky and unique way she combines things to make them her own, and I’m excited for you to get to know her a little better!

How would you define your personal style?

I have an eclectic style that I jokingly refer to as “hobo chic with a grandma flair”. I love juxtaposing old and conservative with bold and daring.

Where do you find most of your style inspiration?

I am inspired by the 60’s and 70’s. Thrift stores inspire me because there are no rules, the good is mixed in with the ugly, I find it very freeing! I also am inspired by street style in Richmond and websites like hellooks.com and pinterest. The number one factor, however, has definitely been my extremely limited budget for buying clothes. Sometimes having restrictions forces creativity that would have otherwise remained dormant, like cooking with whatever food that’s already in the pantry instead of running to the store so you can follow a recipe.

What are your top 3 favorite places to shop?

I shop almost exclusively second hand and vintage but I do like perusing H&M,  Anthropologie, and uUban Outfitters for inspiration.

If you had to choose ONE favorite item currently in your wardrobe, what would it be and why?

I have a pair of Kelly green flats that are not only adorable and unique but super comfy. I can almost picture the sweet old lady that must have been their previous owner.
