It’s September and I LOVE that Fall is in process of arriving. However, in Virginia that means we mostly still have hot Summer temperatures, with an occasional cooler morning or evening. This, of course, can make dressing for late Summer into early Fall a little tricky. The key to success, in my opinion, is definitely layers! Wearing shorts and a sleeveless shirt, but with a lightweight blazer (or button down) layered overtop so it can be easily removed if the day gets warmer is a perfect solution.
In addition to the layering element being practical, I really like the combination of a blazer being a little dressier/formal in concept, mixed with the ripped cut off shorts. It creates a fun, casual-chic kind of look that suits so many settings from running errands, to client meetings, networking events, or dinner out with a friend. Swapping out sandals for ankle boots is another easy way to take a step toward Fall when dressing for late Summer, but without full-on committing when it’s still so warm out. I also love that mock-turtleneck shirts are back in because it’s a perfect way to seem a little less Summery, while still being comfortable in the temperatures. This vintage 90’s Ann Taylor one is definitely my favorite and a great find on Poshmark that I’ve been loving a lot.
You know I love a good thrifted outfit, and everything in this except for the blazer and the jewelry was bought secondhand. ThredUp and Poshmark scores, for the win! When you want to add some new pieces to your wardrobe for the approaching season, I always recommend checking out those places. ThredUp, especially, because you can return if you don’t like it. Poshmark can be trickier since you can’t return, but if you have your eye on something specific from a brand you already know and like, you just may find it on there for a great price!
