Handmade Happiness | A Series of Holiday Give-Aways!

11/08/12

A couple months ago, I had this thought: As the holidays approach, wouldn’t it be cool if I could showcase a few talented individuals who are doing wonderfully creative things (other than photography) and maybe host some give-aways so that more people could find out about their super cool products and abilities? I liked the sound of that thought, so I pursued it a bit….and low and behold, when I asked folks about being featured, they were thrilled to jump on board! But, you know me…I like alliteration and cheesy titles, so I had to come up with something to call this series of features/give-aways. So, “Handmade Happiness” was born, as all of the people that I’ll be featuring personally make amazing handmade/DIY items that would make for the most wonderful of Christmas gifts. Just in time to begin your shopping, today I bring you the first give-away! :) Meet Marybeth, of A Girl And Her Balloon (who happens to not just be talented, but a dear friend of mine that you may recognize from this shoot)!

Tell us your name, where you’re from, and 3 of your favorite things.

My name is Marybeth and I inhabit beautiful, dingy, historic Richmond, VA, with my husband and 2 little hooligans. Aside from enjoying them, I also love thrifting, cooking and playing soccer. And sewing… obviously. :)

How long ago did you start your shop, and what initially inspired you to do so?

This November marks one year since A Girl And Her Balloon opened its figurative “doors”. I chose to start an etsy business as an outlet and excuse to do what I love: sew and create.

What’s your favorite thing to create?

My favorite thing to create is definitely aprons. Designing a wearable item, without having to bother with the nitty-gritty details involved in sewing garments, is really fun and allows me to add  touches of whimsy and style that makes each apron unique.
