Wardrobe Wednesday | Loafers, My Go-To Shoe

1/23/13

I have a lot of people comment on the “statement” pieces in my wardrobe. The bold patterns, bright colors, vintage items, etc. And while I LOVE having a lot of individual pieces with big personality of their own, what really makes ANY wardrobe successful are the “go-to” pieces that are super versatile and work with tons of outfits. So, I’m going to feature from time to time some of the things that are go-to items for me, because I know that it can be helpful to see those items and realize that a wardrobe can mostly be made up of classic, versatile items and you only need a few statement pieces to still give you endless possible combinations for new outfits. So to kick it off, I want to highlight one of my most worn pair of shoes: my loafers.

Even with the green on these shoes, they are one of my most versatile go-with-everything pairs. They’re casual, and classic, and can be the perfect accent to anything from pants, to shorts or skirts and dresses. They made an appearance in these four outfits, and especially in a state like Virginia (with ever-changing weather) literally get tons of wear in all four seasons.

I TOTALLY lucked out with the purchase of mine, because they were $5 at a thrift store, in great condition, and fit perfectly. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of other great options out there if you DON’T have luck finding some at a thrift store. Here are a few I found online that I totally wouldn’t mind owning. (Although, a couple pairs are way expensive, but we can still admire them, right?) The Oxford loafers shown are only $13 at Target, though! Definitely a fun spin on the traditional loafer and not a bad place to start if you don’t yet own a pair.

Are you a loafer-owner, and do you get as much wear out of them as I do? If not, what do you find is one of your top “go-to” shoes? I’d love to hear. :)

I love that you rocks loafers! I think they’re timeless. I’m still on the hunt for the perfect pair but I wear my Minnetonkas practically everyday. Does that count? :)
